ORACLE EXPERTS OFFER TWO NEW SERVICES

MONCTON, NB -- March 16, 2000 -- SystemGuard, a division of Skyridge Systems Inc., announced today the launch of DB Checkup for Oracle and DB Audit for Oracle. These new remote Oracle support services give businesses a comprehensive analysis of their Oracle databases.

Help for DBAs

"With DB Checkup we're trying to help DBAs by giving them a fresh perspective about their databases," said Phillip White, SystemGuard's chief technical architect. "The idea is that we look at the system with no preconceptions so we're able to spot problems and to give them ideas about how to improve database performance."

DB Checkup gives customers a written report that is based on an in-depth investigation of one or more databases. The report describes the strengths and weaknesses of the database setup. An important part of the report is recommendations that help the customer make improvements.

SystemGuard staff spends 2-3 days collecting data from the customer's system using a remote connection. They then spend about a week analyzing the data and writing the report. DB Checkup is available either as a one time or as a periodic service.

Valuable Tool for Managers

DB Audit is a tool for managers rather than for technical staff. White expects the service to be of interest to companies that need technical audits. Companies may need technical audits to satisfy requirements of customers, shareholders or potential investors. DB Audit could also be used by a company with an internal requirement to have someone from outside the organization do a periodic assessment of its systems.

The DB Audit service is similar to DB Checkup, but the focus of the report and the investigation is somewhat different. "With DB Audit, what we're offering is an objective opinion about how well a company has managed to set up and run its databases," said White.

A Good Fit

The new services could be of particular benefit to customers who subscribe to SystemGuard's remote monitoring service, SystemGuardian for Oracle. "DB Checkup and DB Audit go beyond the troubleshooting we do with SystemGuardian for Oracle," explained White. "We dig into subjective aspects of the database setup and are trying to help customers improve long-term performance and efficiency."

SystemGuardian for Oracle monitors databases on a daily basis and helps determine if they are running the way that they’re expected to. "It has helped us to identify problems with our database, and the monthly reports really help us understand what we need to do to fix the problems," said Bob Cole, General Manager of Fredericton-Moncton Tolling Operations J.V., a satisfied SystemGuardian for Oracle customer.
